Gary has been the subject
of three documentaries, two of which were televised and two of which raised
funds for charity.
DRAWN TO WILDLIFE
On VHS only. Still
available from Born Free Foundation (£5).
This unique video shows,
for the first time (1998), the Master of Wildlife drawing at work on a new
picture and in conversation about his life with friend and conservationist Rula
Lenska. It includes extraordinary footage from Gary’s wildlife research trips,
tips on technique and interviews with celebrity collectors – Jilly Goolden,
Sally Gunnell, Virginia McKenna, Jenny Seagrove and Michaela Strachan.
A film montage of Gary’s
art demonstrates the insightful intimacy of his drawings. A time-lapse sequence
of him drawing a Nile crocodile is breathtaking.
In 1997 film producer
David Felber approached Gary wanting to make a film about his art in aid of
wildlife. He put together a fantastic production team which agreed to work
without charge.
The funds from this
production went to Born Free and the Environmental Investigation Agency and
over £16,000 has been raised so far making David Felber’s dream come true.
This film was first broadcast
on the Animal Planet Channelin July 1999.
“Drawn to Wildlife is a
delightful programme showing a wide range of Gary’s wonderful wildlife drawings,
with the added bonus of an insight into the artist and his technique. A must
for any wildlife and art enthusiast or conservationist/wildlife supporters.”
Pam St Clement, actress
