Gary says “Green Iguana is one of only a few drawings
done while on a trip. I visited Venezuela in 1992 and 1993 and drew a total of
eight drawings over an eight week period. Very prolific times! For all of them,
I had a very comfortable indoor area to draw in, a table to draw on and a fan
to avoid clammy hands and to keep me cool.
“The
most typical sightings I had of Iguanas were very briefly up in trees
overhanging the river, before plunging down into the water. Luckily, the beast
I drew was more accommodating and stayed in the tree for ages so I was able to
get loads of photos.
“A
similar story to my Nile Crocodile: my initial intention was to draw the whole Iguana
in side profile. All 180 centimetres of him. Maybe one day.”
