Gary says “When I drew this Snow Leopard, little did I
know what an impact it would have. It was my first print I published that sold
out so quickly; within 5 weeks. A secondary market started. A year and a half
later, at an auction at the Mall Galleries the print reached the £1,000 mark.
It carried on escalating over the next few years until in 1998 it sold for
£2,000, then £2,200, £2,500 and so on. A number of copies have now sold for
around £3,000. The top price realised to my knowledge has been £3,200. I find
it quite staggering.
“I
think the popularity could be down to the pure simplicity of the elongated
composition and perhaps the gentle look in the eyes and the soft fur. A
treasure for anyone who bought it for the published price of £42! And a
signature piece for me from my huge collection.
“Thanks
to many peoples’ generosities, Snow Leopard has raised over £40,000 for EIA,
The Born Free Foundation and other charities.”
