Chimpanzee was drawn by Gary in 1989, but on hearing of Dr Jane Goodall, Founder of The Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace's passing, he wanted to give something to The Jane Goodall Institute in commemoration of her inspirational life. He spent many days embellishing the image adding even more depth and detail and improving it everywhere in numerous subtle ways.
Besides using his own photo references for the original in 1989 he researched some of Jane Goodall’s books to be certain of getting his drawing just right.
